Who we are
Asha Kiran Charitable Trust is a holistic Non-profit Organization whose mission is to benefit the underprivileged class of the disparate Indian society.
Asha Kiran provides food and health services to underprivileged adults in need of help. Asha Kiran engages in charitable services for animals as well. We operate a Gaushala to protect cows and conserve their habitat. Our Gaushala is currently spread over 7 acres and houses over 350 cows.
With the largest illiterate population in the world and housing a third of the world’s poorest people, there is a lot that needs to be done to improve the lives of the underprivileged in India.
At Asha Kiran Charitable Trust, we strive to improve the lives of as many underprivileged as possible through charity. Asha Kiran adopts a holistic approach towards helping society through a variety of programs including, but not limited to,
Providing education for hundreds of children.
Providing food and medical relief to the poor and needy.
Providing skill development facilities for children through arts and crafts classes, computer access, etc.
Operating a Gaushala
Asha Kiran had its humble beginnings in 1997 providing food for the poor for one hour each morning. A year later, in 1998, a street side school was opened outside a shop in Andheri West, Mumbai, with two children in attendance.
This effort has gradually but steadily snowballed into a much bigger operation today. There are now more than 800 children in various classes run by Asha Kiran. Our team of educators consists of about 40 volunteers and another 30 employed teachers.
Asha Kiran operates schools at 8 different locations in Mumbai. In addition to direct educational initiatives, Asha Kiran also supports underprivileged children by providing them with clothes, school supplies (including books, stationery, etc.), transport to municipal schools, food and health services.
The above lists some of the activities we engage in currently. For a list of all initiatives that Asha Kiran is involved in, please see Our Causes page for further details. We hope to expand our charity efforts and improve the lives of more of those that need our help. We hope to continue giving back to society and contributing to a better tomorrow.
After all, as a famous quote from Horace Mann goes -
“Doing nothing for others is the undoing of ourselves.”
